The University was established by the Govt. of Bihar and inaugurated in
Novermber,1992 by the then Chief Minister The University is recognised by the U.G.C. under section 12-B in Feb.,2006.After getting this recognition, it will not only receive grant but also Research-scholars of this university will get scholarships from UGC. Recognition will fetch academic and financial assistance from UGC.It is a member of The Association of Indian Universities having jurisdiction of Saran Division comprising Chhapra,Siwan and Gopalganj districts. J. P. University offers higher education in Arts, Science and Commerce faculty. Post-graduate degrees in all disciplines are being offered by the University. It has 21 constituent and 11 affiliated colleges under its umbrella. On 2nd Feb.,2004 the then Chief Minister Smt. Rabri Devi laid foundation stone of Engineering College at Chhapra. It was named "Jai Prakash Prayoudagiki Sansthan". 250 acres of land has been acquired for the new University Campus. Foundation-stone of new University Campus has been laid by the then Chief Minister Smt. Rabri Devi in April, 2003.The new University campus is about 3 Km. away from the main town on National Highway No. 19 towards Patna. The University has started various professional career-oriented courses. B.C.A. and Distant Education Program has been started to help students.The Academic Calender is regular and examinations are held at regular interval. Prof. Jitendra Singh , 58 years old famous scholar of architecture, took charge the post of Vice-chancellor from Dr. Durg Vijay Singh on 2nd August,2004. An IIT-ian from Roorki ,earlier he had hold the post of the Principal of Bihar College of Engineering and Pro-V.C. of Patna University. Address for Communication: |
