ABDUL GAFUR

Abdul Gafur was the Chief Minister of Bihar from 2nd July 1973 to 11th April,1975. During his
tenure an anti-governemnt Student Agitation emerged which turned into "Sampurna Kranti "
(Total Revolution) Movement led by Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan against the then Prime Minister
Smt. Indira Gandhi- led "Congress Rule" which caused to form First ever Non-Congress Party
Government led by Mr. Morarji Desai.
Mr. Gafur elected Member of Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.), Bihar in 1952, 1957, 1962, 1974,
1977 and 1980. He was elected Member of Legislative Council ( M.L.C.) in 1968 and
was Chairman of Legislative Council from 5th June,1972 to 1st July,1973.
He was elected Member of Parliament (M.P.) from Siwan in 1984 and from Gopalganj in 1991
and 1998. He was then made Minister for Urban Development in Central Ministry.
He died on 10th July, 2004 at Patna .He had two daugthers and one son. Known as straight-cut
politician and popular as "Chacha Gafur " he was laid down under the earth at his paternal village
Sareya,Barouli Block in Gopalganj District.

BHIKHARI THAKUR

Bhikhari Thakur, popularly known as "Shakespear of Bhojpuri" , was born in a barber-family on the 18th of December,1887 at Kutubpur ( Diyara) Village in Saran district.His father and mother were Dal Singar Thakur and Shivkali Devi respectively.He also had a younger brother named Bahor Thakur.
He went to Kharagpur to earn a livelihood. Although he did earn well, he wasn't satisfied with the job. He had always been impressed by Ramleela and a trip to Jagannath Puri awakened the artist in him. Now he had been changed and converted to another person.
He established a Dance Party in his native village and began to play Ram Leela , sing songs and take interest in social-causes. He wrote plays, songs and books in Bhojpuri.The simple language of his books attracted many loyal followers , and he soon became a household name. His books were published from Varanasi , Chhapra and Howrah.
His literary creations including plays ( Bidesiya, Beti-Bechawa,Bidhawa Bilaap etc.) and songs are praised and used to play and sing even today. Almost all the respected musicians in Bhojpuri music today regard him as a source of inspiration.
Bhikhari Thakur died on the 10th of July , 1971 at the age of 84 years.

SHIV BACHAN TRIVEDI

Late Pandit Shiv Bachan Trivedi was one of the Freedom Fighters who sprung into the freedom struggle against the Britishers during his student life.
Pandit Shiv Bachan Trivedi was born on 20th November,1895 at Bankatti village which is situated north of Baikunthpur Police Station in erstwhile Saran District (now Gopalganj District).
He took primary education in Sanskrit. During his Secondary education he devoted himself to Motherland and jumped into the freedom struggle. In 1934, his role in "NAMAK SATYAGRAH" was praise-worthy.He played important role with Mahatma Gandhi during the Nowakhali riot in Bengal in 1942.
In 1935, he was sent jail by the Britishers.He and Babu Thakur Singh of Khajuhatti village in broad day-light set fire the Baikunthpur Police Station in front of Brithish Officers and unfurled the "Tricolour" and raised slogan "Bharat Mata Ki Jay".
They were caught and sentenced imprisonment. He was sent to the jail in 1942. During the Quit India Movement in 1942 Britishers came to the village and showered panic and also threatened to set fire the village.To save villagers he surrendered in the court and was kept in the jail till independence.
He was Member of Bihar Assembly for 13 years from Baikunthpur Assembly Seat. He was M.L.A. from 1952 to 1957 ,1962 to 1967 and 1969 to 1972 as Congress Party Candidate.
After fulfilling 105 year of successful life he died on 13th May,2001.

Laloo Prasad Yadav

Laloo Prasad Yadav was the Chief Minister of Bihar from 10th March,1990 to 25th March 1996.He gave up the seat and made his wife Smt Rabri Devi, the chief Minister of Bihar, when he was chargesheeted in the Fodder Scam in 1996.

Sri Laloo Yadav was born on 11th June,1948 at Phulwaria village of Gopalganj district. His father Sri Kundan Rai and mother Smt Marachhia Devi belong to agrarian family and led very simple life.

Laloo spent his childhood days as other village-boy spends in their childhood.Learning in the school and riding buffolos was his pastime.

Though he was not mathematician but he knows the calculation and equations of politics very well.During the turmoil situation in Bihar in 1974, he led the student agitation alongwith other student leaders like Sushil Modi,Nitish Kumar etc.

Born in "Gangajal" village of Sonepur Sub-division.Passed Intermediate from Vidyasagar College,Kolkata and enter into politics.He was made Chief Minister of Bihar in 1979 after death of Karpuri Thakur,that time he was a member of Congress Socialist Party .

He was impressed by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and Jai Prakash Narayan , and worked with J.P.for a long time.

Rahul Sankrityan

Rahul Sankrityan was born on 9th April, 1893 in Ajamgarh (U.P). He was Secretary of the District Congress Committee and participated in Non-cooperation Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi. He came at Parsagarh Math in Ekma Block as a disciple of Baba Laxman Das.
